Click <i>OK<\/i>.<\/p>\n<h4>Don&#8217;t go to sleep!<\/h4>\n<p>Avoid the sleep state when the lid is closed. For &#8220;<em>Plugged in<\/em>&#8221; and &#8220;<em>On battery<\/em>&#8220;, select &#8220;<em>Shutdown<\/em>&#8221; for the power button, &#8220;Do Nothing&#8221; for the &#8220;Sleep button&#8221;,&nbsp;and &#8220;Lid Closed&#8221; options.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 20px;\"><strong>Windows 10<\/strong>: <em>Settings &gt; System &gt; Power &amp; sleep<\/em> &gt; \u201c<em>Additional power settings<\/em>\u201d &gt; \u201c<em>Choose what closing the lid does<\/em>.\u201d Select <i>\u201cDo Nothing\u201d<\/i> for \u201c<i>When I close the lid<\/i>\u201d.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 20px;\"><strong>Windows 7<\/strong>: <em>Start<\/em> &gt; <em>Control Panel<\/em> &gt; Power Options &gt; \u201c<em>Choose what closing the lid does<\/em>.\u201d Select &#8220;<em>Do Nothing<\/em>&#8221; for <i>\u201cWhen I close the lid\u201d<\/i>. Click &#8220;<em>Save Changes<\/em>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<h4>Is it time?<\/h4>\n<p>Avoid the sleep state and screen off by time-out. By default, Windows may enter a sleep state or turn off the display after a period of inactivity. This applies to notebooks and mini-PCs.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 20px;\"><strong>Windows 11<\/strong>: <em>Settings &gt; System &gt; Power<\/em> &gt; \u201c<em>Screen sleep &amp; hibernate timeouts<\/em>.&#8221; For <em>&#8220;Plugged in<\/em>\u201d and \u201c<em>On battery<\/em>&#8220;, select \u201c<em>Never<\/em>\u201d for \u201c<em>Turn my screen off after<\/em>&#8220;, &#8220;<em>Make my device sleep after<\/em>&#8220;, and &#8220;<em>Make my device hibernate after<\/em>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 20px;\">Windows 10: <em>Settings &gt; System &gt; Power &amp; Sleep<\/em>. For Screen and Sleep, select \u201c<i>Never<\/i>\u201d for \u201c<em>When plugged in\u2026<\/em>\u201d and \u201c<i>On battery power\u2026<\/i>\u201d.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 20px;\"><strong>Windows 7<\/strong>: <em>Start<\/em> &gt; <em>Control Panel<\/em> &gt; &#8220;<em>Power Options<\/em>&#8221; &gt; &#8220;<em>Change plan settings<\/em>&#8220;. For \u201c<em>Plugged in<\/em>\u201d and \u201c<em>On battery<\/em>\u201d, set \u201c<em>Dim the display<\/em>\u201d, \u201c<em>Turn off the display<\/em>\u201d, and \u201c<em>Put the computer to sleep<\/em>\u201d to \u201c<em>Never<\/em>\u201d. Click \u201c<em>Save Changes<\/em>\u201d.<\/p>\n<h4>Deal with the crazy mouse!<\/h4>\n<p>When Windows starts, it searches for a legacy serial mouse on any RS-232 port at a baud rate of 4800. Many marine instruments use this standard.<\/p>\n<p>At startup, Windows can mistakenly identify an active USB GPS as a mouse, resulting in erratic cursor behavior. The best solution is to change a Registry setting:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Press [Windows]+R. The Run dialog appears.<\/li>\n<li>Type &#8220;<em>regedit<\/em>&#8221; and press Enter.<\/li>\n<li>Click &#8220;<i>YES<\/i>&#8221; in the User Account Control dialog.<\/li>\n<li>Navigate to &#8220;<em>KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SYSTEM\\CurrentControlSet\\Services\\sermouse<\/em>&#8220;.<\/li>\n<li>Find &#8220;<em>Start<\/em>&#8221; in the right panel.<\/li>\n<li>Double-click &#8220;<i>Start<\/i>&#8220;, set value to 4, and click &#8220;<i>OK<\/i>&#8220;.<\/li>\n<li>Exit the Registry Editor.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Note:<\/strong> Setting Start to 4 stops Windows from searching for serial mice.<\/p>\n<h4>Is .NET Framework 3.5 installed?<\/h4>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1515 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/evolution-tactic.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/NET-Framework-300x171.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"171\">EVOLUTION needs this Windows feature. Sometimes, .NET Framework 3.5 is included; other times, you must enable it manually.<\/p>\n<p><b>Windows 10\/11<\/b>: Search for \u201c<em>Turn Windows features on or off<\/em>\u201d. If <i>the .NET Framework 3.5<\/i> box is not checked, check it and click &#8220;<i>OK<\/i>&#8220;.&nbsp; Windows will install it.<\/p>\n<p><b>Windows 7<\/b>: Use &#8220;<i>Start<\/i>&#8221; &gt; <em>Control Panel<\/em> &gt; &#8220;<em>Programs and Features<\/em>&#8221; &gt; &#8220;<em>Turn Windows features on or off<\/em>&#8220;. The best way to achieve this is by using an Android or iOS tablet that wirelessly connects to the computer below deck.<\/p><h4>Connecting the display on deck<\/h4><p>A simple router is the best way to establish a connection between the tablet and the onboard computer. Select a 12VDC model that can draw power from the boat&#8217;s batteries.<\/p><ol><li>Set up the router&#8217;s Wi-Fi with a straightforward name and password.<\/li><li>To enhance the Wi-Fi signal on deck, position the router below near where you\u2019ll be using the wireless display. For carbon-fiber boats, we recommend a different setup. Don\u2019t hesitate to contact us for more options!<\/li><li>Connect the computer to the router using an Ethernet cable. It\u2019s best to avoid Wi-Fi here, as it can double the bandwidth usage.<\/li><li>Download and install Microsoft Remote Desktop, now available as a Windows App, from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store. This handy app lets you control the computer right from the deck!<\/li><li>And now for the final steps! Connect the tablet to the router and set up a new desktop connection in the app.<\/li><\/ol><p>You&#8217;re all set! You may start by downloading the latest version.<\/p><p class=\"important\">If a previous version of EVOLUTION is present, you will need to uninstall it using the usual Windows procedure. Don&#8217;t worry; all your current configurations will be preserved.<\/p><p>Unzip the <em>EVOLUTION Setup 3_x_yy.zip<\/em> file. Then run <em>setup.exe<\/em>.<\/p><h4>Activate<\/h4><p>Activating EVOLUTION enables the exchange of data with the instruments. By acquiring a User License, you can activate EVOLUTION on a single computer, the onboard computer.<\/p><p>Yet, it is NOT necessary to activate EVOLUTION on other computers to download forecasts, review races, create courses, manage waypoints, etc.<\/p><p>Use the following instructions for the activation:<\/p><ol><li>Run EVOLUTION. Wait a few seconds, then check the folder Documents\\My EVOLUTION; you will find a file with an extension \u201c<em>.req\u201d<\/em>, for example, <em>evolution_0EKGASJ.<\/em><em>req<\/em><\/li><li>Copy and send the .req file to support@evolution-tactic.com<\/li><li>We will send you back a file with a \u201c<em>.lic\u201d<\/em> extension, for instance, <em>evolution_0EKGASJ\u20110EKGAW8.lic<\/em><\/li><li>Copy the \u201c<em>.lic<\/em>&#8221; file to the &#8220;<em>My EVOLUTION<\/em>&#8221; folder.<\/li><li>Rerun EVOLUTION to complete the activation.<\/li><\/ol><p class=\"tip\">Once done, this procedure deletes the \u201c<em>. lic<\/em>\u201d file from the <em>My EVOLUTION<\/em> folder.<\/p><p class=\"important\">Please do not rename, open, or alter the content of the \u201c.req&#8221; and \u201c.lic&#8221; files; otherwise, activation will fail.
