La posibilidad de obtener una respuesta vino de un estimado amigo, el Contralmirante de la Armada Argentina C\u00e9sar Recalde, un verdadero yachtsman y usuario experto de EVOLUTION.<\/p><p>\u201c\u00bfY si probamos EVOLUTION en la Fragata Libertad, el buque escuela de nuestra armada?\u201d, dijo C\u00e9sar. \u201cEmpiezan su viaje de instrucci\u00f3n en una semana. Deber\u00edas hablar con el comandante lo antes posible\u201d, agreg\u00f3 al pasar.<\/p><p>As\u00ed lo hice. Se me permiti\u00f3 elegir cualquiera de las piernas planeadas. Mi elecci\u00f3n fue la de Fortaleza, Brasil a Veracruz, M\u00e9xico. Los vientos alisios simplificar\u00edan la calibraci\u00f3n de los instrumentos, el desarrollo y las pruebas de curvas polares.<\/p><p>En este punto, debo mencionar que el \u00abARA Libertad\u00bb es un barco de m\u00e1s de 100 m, tres m\u00e1stiles de velas cuadras, utilizado principalmente para entrenar a los cadetes de la armada argentina. Tiene un excelente desempe\u00f1o, ganando el Boston Teapot Trophy nueve veces en total: en 1966, 1976, 1981, 1985, 1987, 1992, 1998, 2000 y 2007. Para obtener m\u00e1s informaci\u00f3n sobre este barco, puede seguir este enlace.<\/p><p>Volviendo a mi historia, tres semanas despu\u00e9s me encuentro saliendo de Fortaleza a bordo de la Libertad. S\u00ed, un barco a vela al fin y al cabo, pero inmerso en un entorno militar. Me tom\u00f3 alg\u00fan tiempo adaptarme!<\/p><p>Despu\u00e9s de los rituales del cruce ecuatorial, y algunos inconvenientes menores, EVOLUTION qued\u00f3 en funcionamiento. Conectar los instrumentos del barco al sistema fue muy simple. Para mi sorpresa, eran de grado militar, precisos, e incre\u00edblemente bien calibrados.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-94ecbb8 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"94ecbb8\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\" data-settings=\"{&quot;_ha_eqh_enable&quot;:false}\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-66 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-2ff6ff1\" data-id=\"2ff6ff1\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-9c1a94d elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"9c1a94d\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h4 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Curvas Polares<\/h4>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-8db1ae6 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"8db1ae6\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>El siguiente desaf\u00edo fue crear las curvas polares que describen el desempe\u00f1o del barco en diferentes \u00e1ngulos y velocidades de viento verdadero (TWA\/TWS).<\/p><p>Antes de llegar a bordo, ya hab\u00eda hecho mi tarea, generando un conjunto estimado de datos de rendimiento de este barco. Luego, gracias a los pacientes oficiales en el puente, fue posible dirigir el barco en diferentes \u00e1ngulos de viento. Los siguientes d\u00edas trajeron un buen rango de velocidades de viento. Despu\u00e9s de procesar algunos n\u00fameros, obtuve mis curvas polares.<\/p><p>Con el sistema configurado para la Fragata Libertad, el siguiente paso fue verificar si EVOLUTION pod\u00eda predecir c\u00f3mo se comportaba el barco en el mundo real. Como naveg\u00e1bamos a favor del viento, el sistema tambi\u00e9n deber\u00e1 proporcionar el \u00e1ngulo de viento \u00f3ptimo para lograr la mejor velocidad a favor del viento (VMG).<\/p><p>En segundo lugar, \u00bfpodr\u00e1 EVOLUTION predecir un tiempo hasta el layline (punto de trasluchada)? Unas horas antes, el sistema deber\u00e1 mostrar d\u00f3nde estar\u00e1 el punto de trasluchada y cu\u00e1ndo estaremos all\u00ed.<\/p><p>Y tercero, \u00bfpodr\u00e1 el sistema proporcionar informaci\u00f3n sobre la mejor manera de ajustar las velas? Como puede verse en la imagen, la estela verde dejada por el barco indica que su velocidad real era perfectamente compatible con lo que predec\u00edan las curvas polares. De otro modo, el color cambiar\u00eda mostrando las diferencias de rendimiento.<\/p><p>Colocando el cursor en dos puntos de la derrota, vemos cuadros que presentan las condiciones de navegaci\u00f3n en esos momentos. Las leyendas\u00a0indican:\u00a0WOW el viento, CUR la corriente y Polar SOW% la relaci\u00f3n entre la velocidad real de la embarcaci\u00f3n y la extra\u00edda de las curvas polares para el \u00e1ngulo y la velocidad del viento en ese momento. El Polar SOW% muestra un 99% y un 100% en los dos puntos analizados. \u00a1La prueba pas\u00f3 con \u00e9xito!<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-1877637 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"1877637\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\" data-settings=\"{&quot;_ha_eqh_enable&quot;:false}\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-2f7dda1\" data-id=\"2f7dda1\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-9370ef4 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"9370ef4\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Antes de pasar a la <b>segunda prueba<\/b>, vale la pena aclarar que la mayor\u00eda de los barcos a vela no navegan bien en popa redonda; especialmente los barcos con velas cuadras. Por lo general, es m\u00e1s efectivo navegar con un \u00e1ngulo de viento levemente cerrado, lo que llamamos \u201cpor la aleta\u201d. Es f\u00e1cil ver esta caracter\u00edstica en el gr\u00e1fico de las curvas polares.<\/p><p>Como consecuencia, si nuestro destino est\u00e1 directamente viento abajo, tendremos que bordejear en popa trasluchando.<br \/>Este era nuestro caso durante la segunda prueba. Constantemente EVOLUTION, adem\u00e1s de proporcionar el TWA \u00f3ptimo, predec\u00eda cu\u00e1nto era el tiempo al punto de trasluche.<\/p><p>A las 14:00 el sistema predec\u00eda que en 3 horas y 40 minutos llegar\u00edamos a donde deber\u00edamos trasluchar. Las velas recib\u00edan el viento aparente en un \u00e1ngulo de ataque aproximado de 75 grados.<\/p><p>Para la <b>tercera prueba<\/b> se decidi\u00f3 que, despu\u00e9s de trasluchar, se mantendr\u00eda el mismo \u00e1ngulo entre el barco y el viento (mismo TWA desde la amura opuesta), pero las perchas se ajustar\u00edan para que las velas reciban el viento con un \u00e1ngulo de ataque 90 grados.<\/p><p>\u00a1Luego de trasluchar, la performance del barco paso del 100% a un 80%!
